Calling all Volunteers!! We need your Help.

Coderdojo Greystones is run by volunteers. We have a core committee of about 10 people and are supported by parents whose kids attend the various classes. As kids finish classes, helpers tend to move on, which is fully understandable.

We are always on the lookout for new people to get involved to lead out the next wave of Coderdojo Greystones through 2016 and into 2017.need-your-help-300x225

We are looking to talk to people who would be interested in stepping up to lead our classes. Maybe you are a volunteer already and would like to now lead the class? Have you an IT background and would you consider helping develop a new class on a new subject? Do you work with a programming language that we don’t yet have a class for?

I should stress that some of our classes don’t require an IT related background.

We have an immediate vacancy for Wednesday nights in St Kevins but are also looking for people who would be free on Saturdays too. If your still not sure we are looking at single week ‘tasters’. So if you cannot commit to a full 4 week Term, are you may be in a position to deliver a single 1.5 hour session on an agreed subject.

If you would be interested in the position we would love to hear from you. You can reach us at coderdojogreystones@gmail.com

The End of Term 1

Term 1 ended on Saturday and we are already looking forward to Term 2 which will start after the mid-term. We hope all the kids enjoyed the last 4 weeks and that some like it so much they are spending their free time working away and practising.

We had over 140+ kids attend across all our Term 1 classes; Scratch, Sketch-up, Processing, White Hat Hacking and MIT App Inventor.

Any kids who attended our beginners Scratch and Sketch-up classes will be automatically registered for Term 2 (our intermediate classes). If you can’t attend Term 2 please let us know.

We are looking to start back either the 7th or 14th November depending on availability of the venue so please keep an eye on our Facebook page and your email for updates.

We also hope to announce some new courses. Possibly a 4 week session on JavaScript and something around SQL and Databases for Term 2 and we will let you know once confirmed.

An email and Facebook post will also be going out for anyone looking to get more involved in helping us deliver classes.

Finally, Thanks to all our Term 1 lead mentors, Aisling, Hannah, Larry and Jean-Luc and of course those who also volunteered their time to help in the various classes. Thanks to those keeping the parents and kids going at break time with teas, coffees and juices, to those on our registration desk and of course those working behind the scenes on admin tasks.

Without you, Coderdojo Greystones would not exist. Everyone, including the committee give up their time to provide this free resource. We get no funding, so everything we have is provided through donations. If you would like to donate we have a PayPal button on our website. No amount is to small.

See you all in Term 2.

Do you have any spare extension leads?

We are looking for your help: As you may have seen if you have been down to us on Saturdays, we need lots of extension leads and adapters for the kids to be able to power their laptops.cables

At the moment we are in short supply. If anyone has any spare leads or would like to donate some we would be more than happy to take them off your hands and they will be put to really good use.

If you can help or know someone who can, either bring them with you on Saturday, send us a PM via our Facebook page or you can email coderdojogreystones@gmail.com

The small funds we have are used for Insurance, the Garda Vetting process for volunteers and for completion certificates which the kids will get on completion.

Thanks again and see you all Saturday!

We need help finding a Lead Mentor

We need your Help!

Calling all Volunteers,

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have a requirement for a lead mentor for the White Hat Hacking class. All the material is ready  and you will have support. The class is already full with the 15 places allocated and was to take place on Wednesday Evenings in St Kevins from 7.00pm starting September 30th. (Although, we may have some flexibility over the day and time).

If you would be interested in the position please email us at coderdojogreystones@gmail.com.

Unless we can find someone to help out we may be forced to cancel the class which would be a real shame as the kids are really looking forward to it.

Alternatively, rather than cancel the class we would also love to hear from any other volunteers who may be willing to be a lead mentor and deliver another course based on their skillset.

Thanks,
Coderdojo Greystones Commitee

Processing is a cool graphics/visual arts programming language and toolset. See more at https://processing.org/overview/. Similarly, the project is designed to turn engineers and computer scientists to less gainful employment as artists and designers.”
A 4 week pilot using the processing.js JavaScript library. Guideline Age 11+. Time 4pm

Donations

Coderdojo Greystones is 100% volunteer led and is free to kids attending. We do need funds to purchase things like completion certificates, power leads and sundries so all donations are gratefully accepted. We have a Paypal Donate button on our website http://coderdojogreystones.com if you feel you can help.

Lack of a laptop should not stop any child participating.

So stay tuned, keep an eye on your inbox, and see you all soon!
